Morning drive to Akagera National Park (approximately 2.5 hours). Check in to your safari lodge and enjoy lunch. Afternoon game drive through the park's southern sector, spotting elephants, buffalo, and antelope.

Full-day exploration of Akagera. Morning game drive in the northern sector targeting lions and rhinos. Boat safari on Lake Ihema to see hippos, crocodiles, and waterbirds. Afternoon game drive before sunset at the lodge.

Depart Akagera and drive northwest to Gisenyi on the shores of Lake Kivu (approximately 5 hours). Check in to your lakeside lodge. Spend the afternoon relaxing by the lake with views of the Congo across the water.

Morning visit to a local coffee plantation — learn the bean-to-cup process and taste freshly roasted Rwandan coffee. Afternoon kayaking on Lake Kivu or optional boat trip to one of the lake's islands. Evening at leisure.

Drive south along the scenic Lake Kivu shoreline to Nyungwe National Park (approximately 5 hours). Stop in Kibuye for lunch overlooking the lake. Arrive at your forest lodge in the late afternoon. Optional sunset walk along the forest edge.

Very early morning chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe's ancient montane rainforest. Trek with expert guides to find a habituated chimp community. After the trek, enjoy the Canopy Walkway — suspended 60 meters above the forest floor. Afternoon at leisure.
